Fill the 5 gallon jug with water and pour it into the 3 gallon jug until the 3 gallon jug is full; this leaves you with 2 gallons in the 5 gallon jug. Now pour out the water in the 3 gallon jug. Pour the 2 gallons of water from the 5 gallon jug into the empty 3 gallon jug. Fill the 5 gallon jug with water. You now have exactly 7 gallons.
