Last Chance to Qualify for 2009 Federal Tax Credits for Energy Efficiency
You Can Still Save Up to $1500 on Qualified Air Conditioners and Furnaces in 2010…But Time’s Running Out for Your 2009 Returns!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(WILMINGTON, DE/EXTON, PA; December 7, 2009) — Horizon Services, Inc. reminds all homeowners and consumers in their Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland service area that if they purchase an energy-efficient heating or cooling product for their home in 2009 and 2010, they may be eligible for a federal tax credit up to $1,500. This is part of the economic stimulus plan President Obama and Congress launched in February 2009. However, many homeowners remain in the dark as to when these purchases need to be made — and when they need to be installed — in order to receive the tax credit on their 2009 tax returns.
“Customers who are thinking of taking advantage of energy-efficiency tax credits in 2009, need to know that it’s not enough to just purchase a new energy-efficient air conditioning or heating system before the end of the year,” says Mark Aitken, co-owner of Horizon Services. “To qualify for the tax credit in 2009, the product needs to be installed by December 31, 2009. These tax credits will be claimed on your 2009 taxes, which you must file by April 15, 2010. So if you want the tax credit for 2009, you need to purchase and install a qualified furnace or air conditioner as soon as you possibly can.”
So if a customer installs a qualified energy-efficient heating or cooling product AFTER December 31, 2009, does that mean they do not qualify for a tax credit? The answer is that they still can qualify…but not in 2009. This program covers a two-year period, 2009 and 2010, terminating on December 31, 2010. So if the product is purchased in 2009, but installed in 2010, it can be claimed on your 2010 tax returns.
To clarify, you can get a maximum of $1,500 anytime over the 2-year period (2009 & 2010). If you miss out in 2009, you still have 2010 to take advantage. If you get the entire $1,500 credit in 2009, then you can’t get anything additional in 2010.
