Horizon Services and Operation Warm Make the New Year Special for Needy Kids
Local Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning Company Raises $15,000 to Provide Winter Coats to Kids!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(WILMINGTON, DE / EXTON, PA; January 3, 2011) — Already, the winter of 2011 has proven to be chillier and slower than average. The slowly-recovering U.S. economy continues to make getting by difficult for low-income families. But one Delaware Valley company has just made keeping warm this winter a lot easier for needy kids in the region.
For the second straight year, Horizon Services, Inc. — the Delaware Valley’s premier residential plumbing, heating and air conditioning company — partnered with Operation Warm during the holiday season to distribute brand new winter coats to kids in need throughout Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Between Thanksgiving and Christmas in 2010, Horizon Services pledged $5 from every invoice to Operation Warm. And for the second year in a row, Horizon Services and its customers have raised $15,000 — enough money for Operation Warm to buy over 1000 new winter coats.
“Horizon Services would like to thank the 2,500+ customers in Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland who helped us in a big way by raising $15,000 for this phenomenal program, Operation Warm,” said Mark Aitken, co-owner of Horizon services. “Their response is going to make a significant difference in the lives of over 1,000 local kids this winter, for sure.”
This morning, Aitken presented a check for $15,000 to Operation Warm in an on-air ceremony on 99.5 WJBR-FM, the Wilmington, DE radio station whose support and promotion was also instrumental in the fundraiser’s success.
“We are extremely grateful to Horizon Services and its customers for their generosity this holiday season,” said Dick Sanford, founder of Operation Warm. “We know that the temperatures so far this winter have been brutally cold and are likely to get colder. Thanks to Horizon’s efforts, over 1000 little kids in our region will be able to stay warm, safe and healthy all winter long.”
Headquartered in Chadds Ford, PA, Operation Warm is a non-profit organization that provides new, high quality coats to children whose families cannot afford them. These coats provide more than just warmth; they allow children to attend school, improve their self-esteem, and allow their families to spend money on other critical essentials such as food, rent and fuel. Operation Warm operates and distributes coats in 26 states. In the past 11 years, the organization has distributed more than 500,000 coats nationwide to needy children.
